Authors: Brad Sneed and Jacqueline Briggs Martin
Average review score:

Hang up your sign...Gone Fishin!
Will Simon Henry catch the legend of Higgins Bend, Oscar, the sneaky catfish? No one ever has...but Simon is determined. Get this book and find out! This great book is brought to you by two of Kansas's finest, author Jackie Briggs Martin and illustrator, Brad Sneed. The story is the perfect length (each page is one or two paragraphs, tops) and the illustrations bring joy and energy to this classic tale of the one that got away...or did he? Your children will ask for this one over and over!

AN ORIGINAL TALL TALE, UPROARIOUSLY TOLD
This book is written to be READ ALOUD! The music of the language, the surprise of unlikely phrases crafted with the liberal use of hyphenation, the authentic voice, and the lively story are everything a tall tale should be! Martin has three irresistible characters here - Simon Henry, Potato Kelly, and Oscar, the uncatchable catfish. Sneed's wildly exaggerated paintings do perfect justice to this joyride of a story!

High School Bound: The Ultimate Guide for High School Success and Survival
Published in Paperback by Westgate Publishing & Entertainment, Inc. (01 January, 1997)
Authors: Martin J. Spethman and Chuck Klein
Average review score:

Informative, Easy to Read, Fun Illustrations
High School Bound made a great gift for my nieces and nephews. It is written with the reluctant middle-schooler in mind. It is well organized and the illustrations provide entertainment value. It was a real help and gave the kids more confidence going into high school

A must read before entering those portals of high school .
What an excellant book. It's written in a style to capture the attention of teenagers and filled with good advice for their success in school...and life. Martin Spethman 'talks' their language and has added humor to get his great points across. I wish there was something like his book when I began high school. Those first confusing days so long ago still haunt me. Not only does he deal with the usual topics one would expect to find, he also stresses the importance of good attitudes and study and living habits. I especially liked his mentioning that teachers were there to help, not just to make things difficult. I am getting copies for each of our grandchildren and suggest other parents and grandparents do the same. Read it first though. It's a joy.

Hiking Marin: 121 Great Hikes in Marin County
Published in Paperback by Martin Press (October, 1995)
Authors: Don Martin, Kay Martin, and Bob Johnson
Average review score:

Marin Hiking on Your Finger Tips
As a Bay Area local, I've always stood in awe of the breath-taking views and natural wonders of the Marin coast. Attempts to conquer and explore this piece of jewel have never been better with the aid of this Marin hiking guide. It provides clear and detailed descriptions of over 120 trails in Marin, with illustrations, maps, and level of strenuousness. Featured in each trail are points of interests, what-to-see info, plants guide, and milestones.

I found the sections on Point Reyes National Seashore particularly useful. A land in motion, the Point Reyes Peninsula is an unusual, dislocated land that long baffled geologists. The rocks of this craggy coast match those of the Tehachapi Mountains some 310 miles to the south due to the constant motion of the Earth's crust. The varied surface patterns of Point Reyes are more obvious than the normally slow changes underground. You can see streams and estuaries cutting through the landscape of folded hills and valleys. Awaiting visitors are many miles of beaches within sight of Douglas-fir and Bishop pine forests.

Whether you're impressed with the motion of Point reyes and want to explore the San Adreas fault, of just a family planning on a weekend trip to Stinson Beach, or just a ride showcasing the beauty of the Pacific Ocean in Marin Headland, this Marin hiking guide has got the info you'll need. It is one of the best and thorough guide especially devoted to hiking in Marin.

Great guide to Marin hiking!
I use an older copy of this book (it only lists 121 hikes), and I have found it a great guide. Grouping trails by the various geographies of Marin County, and Appendices that group some of the hikes in the book--like a listing of all the hikes that have great waterfalls, or places to see wildflowers in a particular season--are very handy. One thing I would have liked is to see the flowers in color: black-and-white line drawings are less effective representatives of what a hiker should see out on the trails. All in all, however, it is an excellent companion as one hikes a trail, describing major sights and milestones along the hike while marking out the distances and heights one might climb. Another useful item is that the hikes can be done in parts if, say, you can't do a whole 10-mile hike at the moment. The countryside around Marin is so wonderfully varied--seashores, redwoods, great views of the Bay Area--that this would be a great book for nature-types who like to explore.

Holy Ghost Revival on Azusa Street: The True Believers Part II: More Eyewitness Accounts
Published in Paperback by Christian Life Books (01 July, 1999)
Author: Larry Martin
Average review score:

The BEST
Not only is this the best book I've read on the Azusa outpouring but the best author. Dr. Larry Martin has done an excellent job of presenting his material so you feel like you're living in that time period. I highly recommend this book or any of his other writing to anyone that wants to know more about Pentecost at the turn of the century.

Another Wonderful Book by Larry Martin
This sequel to the first "True Believers" is also a collection of first hand testimonials from people who received the Pentecostal experience at Azusa. It is very moving to read in their own words how these men and women received their supernatural touch from God and went all over the world carrying the message of the Gospel and the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Simply put, this is an awesome book!

What Do I Do?
Everybody should know what to do if your pet chokes, eats a poisenous plant, experiences an electrical shock, has a seizure or you're confronted with any number of other illnesses and/or accidents. This book is extremely comprehensive. The diagrams and instructions are very easy to follow. It also has sections on symptom recognition, immunization, and basic total health care.

Perfect for the Pet Owner
This is a fantastic book, not only does it cover the many illness that might befall our canine firends; also it is in large type with HUGE pictures, extremely well written for the layman. It's a MUST have for the Dog owner. The "Emergencies: First-Aid Procedures" section is the best on Emergency and First Aid for Canines I have Ever Seen. If you own a dog you MUST HAVE THIS BOOK!

Hoppin' John's Lowcountry Cooking
Published in Paperback by Houghton Mifflin Co (08 April, 2000)
Authors: John Martin Taylor and John Martin Taylor
Average review score:

Not just a cook book
This is a cookbook alright but it is also a history of lowcountry food, agriculture, and recipes. Plus, Hoppin' John has an attitude and man is he strict: You'd better boil your shrimp with the heads on and you'd better make iced tea the right way.

An Excellent Regional Cook Book
John Martin Taylor does an outstanding job of sharing the history, culture, the exact how and why of South Carolina Low Country (Costal Carolina)Cooking. This book is enjoyable, reads like a good novel and will be appreciated by both novice or experinced cooks. If you enjoy good regional cook books, this one is a gem and is well worth owning!

Houser: The Life and Work of Catherine Bauer
Published in Paperback by University of Washington Press (March, 2000)
Authors: H. Peter Oberlander, Eva Newbrun, and Martin Meyerson
Average review score:

A Feminist Activist In Housing Policy
Houser is part biography and part intellectual history of the early days of idealsm and activism in the housing movement. Oberlander and Newbrun are effective in using a sensitive telling of the life of Catherine Bauer to evoke a sense in which housing policy today has lost its way despite the foundations laid by Ms.Bauer and her colleagues. This book is a must read for those interested in reviving American housing policies.

very informative, very enjoyable.
This book is not only required reading for anyone interested in public housing, but also very enjoyable as a lively account of a most attractive and courageous woman. It is fun to read about her amatory exploits on her first trip to Europe, exciting to read about her successes in public life, and sad to find out about her tragic death. I would recommend this book to anybody interested in a remarkable woman's career.

How to Get into and Graduate from College in 4 Years With Good Grades, a Useful Major, a Lot of Knowledge, a Little Debt, Great Friends, Happy Parents
Published in Paperback by Westgate Publishing & Entertainment, Inc. (01 April, 1993)
Authors: Martin J. Spethman and Ralph Cabrera
Average review score:

Great for high school juniors and seniors.
It was nice to finally find a book that high school juniors and senior want to read. The other books on the market dealing with the high school to college transition are too boring and preachy! I highly recommend this book for college prep counseling programs because I know how busy juniors and seniors are. It covers very serious topics in a very open, fresh manner. The books make great graduation gifts too!

A practical college manual with a sense of humor!
Thoughtful advice on everything from selecting a major to partying to pop quizzes. I enjoyed the planning worksheets in the book - they helped me organize my thoughts and prioritize my game plan. Great illustrations!

How to Witness to Jehovah Tt

Author: Walter Ralston Martin
Average review score:

How to witness to Jehovah witnesses
Great researcher of the cults. The late Walter Martin was the best in exposing the cults. This is another great resource on the Jehova's Witnesses

An Essential Guide to Witnessing to those in the Watchtower
Dr. Walter Martin, author of such works as "The Kingdom of the Cults" and coauthor of "Jehovah of the Watchtower," was a recognized expert in non-Christian religions and cults. His overview of the theology of the Watchtower, and witnessing techniques that are effective in reaching those in the Watchtower, is based on careful research and years of experience. This tape series is very practical and will be a great tool for anyone who has been unsure about how to answer the Jehovah's Witness at the door or in the family.

Human Dimension and Interior Space: A Source Book of Design Reference Standards
Published in Hardcover by Watson-Guptill Pubns (December, 1989)
Authors: Julius Panero and Martin Zelnik
Average review score:

I couldn't live without it.
As a licensed Interior Designer I refer to this book frequently. To determine the space required for any activity from opening a file drawer to dining, watching a movie or simply removing an object from a shelf this book gives it to you straight with no fluff. It contains simple but indispensible scientific data for the 95th percentile and beyond. Whether you are a student or a professional, in Interior Design, Architecture or Industrial Design I highly recommend Human Dimension and Interior Space.

This book serves as a linchpin in designing any interior!
Human Dimension & Interior Space provides information about interior space requirements and human dimensions that are indispensable to the beginning design student or the practicing professional. Its drawings and charts are clear, easy to understand and even easier to apply. It should be part of every design professional's library or student's required reading list. It is also refreshing to note that this book has integrated barrier free design/accessibility issues into each space type that is covered, and not made it a separate issue.
